Abstract :

Abstract

The battle of development in the third world countries is considered among the most important battles in the face of backwarener, and poverty provided that there is a developmental project controlled by science and technological progress. The battle in the field of industry is part of a greater challenge in the spheres of development and civilization. The development of industry is the backbone of the developmental process due to the pioneering role of industrialization.

Palestine is in bad need to take into consideration the elements of development in the field of industry to achieve stability and social security. There fore, this geographical study in the city of Hebron tried to shed light on different aspects of this sector such as, constitutes, make –up difficules and suggesting the proper solutions.

This study falls into six chapters. The first chapter includes the introduction, problem, objectives questions, methodology and tools, ex-studies, social historical and geographical background, and terms.

The second chapter deals with the historical development of industry in the city during the British Mandate, Jordanian erra. Israel occupation and finally the Palestinian National Authority.

The third chapter tackles the components of industry and the factors that influence the industrial location in the city.

The forth chapter deals with the types of industrialization, indusial products and difficulties.

The fifth chapter handles the organization of industry, saggested industrial zones, and planning for alternative industrial zones.

The six chapter deals with the findings and recommendations.

To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher designated all the factories, and industrial foundations in the city, and then he chose a 10% random sample covering all the small, medium and big factories. The sample consisted of 122 industrial facilities 1210 working facilities 78 questionnaires were returned. Among working industrial foundations the sample covered 586. In this regard 514 questionnaires were restored.

The researcher used a questionnaire designee to suit the objectives of the study. The interviewees were given questionnaires which were processed by "SPSS" a program for data analysis, and a program for designing the maps that appear in the study.

The study demonstrated the importance of industry in the city of Hebron and the West Bank in general.

The findings:

1. The city of Hebron occupies 55.7% of the transformational industrial and facilities in the district.

2. the working population in the industrial sector in the city of Hebron constitutes 63.6% of the working population al the datival level.

3. industries such as shoe, bag, texture, pirating and are base non-metallic ones centered in the city of Hebron.

4. industry contributes to 30% of the total added value in the city.

5. The leather and textile industrial represent the first degree of the industrials in the city, followed by the metal industrial that occupy the second degree and the wood and furniture industries in the third degree.

Recommendations

1. It is important of reorganize the industrial sector to put an end to the random distribution of the industrial foundations.

2. Activating the economic agreements with the Arab countries and amending the ones with Israel.

3. Upgrading the level of the industrial products to enable them to compete in the free markel.
